Height Lab

In our quest to create the most flattering clothes for all women we’ve developed our own library of clever design devices, little tricks that ensure our shapes work on every height. To demonstrate, we brought together the tallest and shortest members of the ME+EM team to style the collection in what we’re calling the Height Lab, a helpful tool to bring ‘intelligent style’ to life, regardless of where you sit on the height spectrum.

Steph, Creative Project Manager, 5’2”The cropped length of the Wide-Leg Crop Jean is ideal if you’re shorter. Sitting a little lower than ankle-height, the wide cut still reveals a flash of skin at the hem that will create the illusion of extra inches. Layered up with the Lofty Cashmere Relaxed Jumper and the Houndstooth Blazer, you have the perfect summer-to-autumn outfit.

The curved hem

Shorter at the front and longer at the back, the purpose of the curved hem is to make longer dresses wearable for all heights. If you’re shorter, it will still show off a little bit of leg, avoiding trailing hemlines that unnecessarily steal inches. If you’re taller, the front hemline will sit closer to a midi length and drop lower at the back to create a flattering silhouette.

Zoe, Head Stylist, 5’11”When you’re tall, you want a full-length trouser that is actually full-length. With a generous amount of fabric in the leg, a wide-leg cut will fall attractively to the floor, gently pooling around the shoe for an uninterrupted silhouette. Clever layers will provide levels of interest, like a flared cuff peeking out from a jumper sleeve.

The jumpsuit

You don’t have to rule out a jumpsuit if you’re above or below average height. If you’re shorter, turn up the cuff to shorten the length of the leg whilst still staying true to the shape of the cut. And don’t forget to employ the belt to draw in the shape and pull up the fit. If you’re taller and need that extra length, simply turn the cuff down.
